Massekhet

Massekhet is a peer-reviewed journal that was established in the year 2002 (5762) by Nobel Laureate Prof. Yisrael Aumann in memory of his late wife Esther z”l.

Massekhet is a research periodical that addresses multiple realms of study, serving as a unique platform for articles that relate to the world of the Jewish women, from the beginnings of the nation until the end of the twentieth century: in Jewish sources and in a range of Jewish creative formats, throughout history, in the Land of Israel and throughout the world. The journal seeks to promote Jewish women who stood out in action and contribution, whether cultural, societal, national or spiritual.

Massekhet is a meeting point between various disciplines and approaches, between generations and worlds, between academic and research institutions and addresses a variety of spiritual and ideological spaces. The journal is published annually in conjunction with The Fanya Gottesfeld Heller Center for the Study of Women in Judaism of the Faculty of Jewish Studies at Bar-Ilan University.

All articles in Massekhet are published in Hebrew. Each volume has an English section containing abstracts of all articles.

To date, sixteen issues of the journal Masskhet have been published.

All articles that are printed in Massekhet undergo academic review prior to publication.
